Jayne Sachs - Musician Songwriter

Jayne Sachs - Musician Songwiter
Jayne Sachs and her band had my attention when a friend introduced me to her Live! CD. By the time it finished I was nailed to my seat and a believer. A believer in the power of Jayne's full blown persona and her ability to describe the human condition. Her voice and ability to transfer her poetry into lyrics are outstanding abilities in their own right, but Jayne is "more." I haven't heard anybody "reach out from the inside" since Peter Gabriel stopped me dead in my tracks with In Your Eyes.

Poets have the duty to keep us real by recording history, good and bad. Poets rip themselves apart so they can bring the passion of their words to life and make you feel, too. Down The Stairs, with its words spinning and tempo building, paints a picture of abuse victims from the inside. Give Me Your Eyes wraps us in the magical miracle of love with all the power and promise it brings to any relationship.

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. Twisted Ballerina, featured on the album Sutures, won the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Contest in the POP Category and continues to raise awareness regarding sexual abuse of children. If you would like to read articles and press releases from a variety of professional media sources, including the Dayton Daily News, Cincinnati CityBeat, Cincinnati Post TimeOut, The Philadelphia Enquirer, The LA Album, and Cups and Cauldrons go here: www.jaynesachs.com/jaynesachsbio.html

I am honored to have Jayne's truly inspired work here on Aesthetic Impact. Jayne, from one poet to another, thanks for being You, and for sharing your heart and soul with us.

Love,
Teresa

I am honored to have Jayne's truly inspired work...

"Give Me Your Eyes" was written on a Saturday afternoon, in my closet, three days after meeting Johnnie Wilder Jr... former lead singer for the band Heatwave. You may remember grooving to that 70's party song "Boogie Nights" and slow dancing to the hit ballad "Always and Forever"... if you're a baby boomer that is. Johnnie Wilder Jr. is from Dayton and ironically lives very close to me, which was a surprise. And I should mention Johnnie is a quadriplegic. At the height of Heatwave's success in 1979 a tragic car accident here in Dayton all but took his life, leaving him unable to move from the neck down.

My friend Jim Boz of WCSU-radio took me to Johnnie's house on an August night for the purpose of recording our conversation. Boz is writing a book about Johnnie and wanted to get excerpts while a musician talked to Johnnie about "music". Johnnie and I talked and talked that evening. I met his wife Roz as well. Roz is Johnnie's full time care giver. It was so apparent on that Wednesday night/way into Thursday day (Johnnie sleeps all day and is awake all night)... that Roz and Johnnie have a special partnership. I was so moved by Johnnie and his positive outlook on his condition and his life that I couldn't stop thinking about him. I thought of all the things a quadriplegic like Johnnie could give in a relationship... his eyes, voice, mind, truth along with the ability to teach patience and bravery. I started writing "Give Me Your Eyes". Read more »

Give Me Your Eyes

Give me your eyes
I won't blink

Give me your lips
and the voice they speak

Give me your mind
I'll curl up inside it

Give me your truth
I'll keep warm beside it

Give me your brave
I'll learn from it

Give me your patience
I'll slow down with it

Give me your beat
the rhythm that's you

Give me your veins
just a taste of what runs through

Give me your veins
just a taste of what runs through

Down The Stairs

Mary had a little lamb
He followed her to Neverland
and got lost along the way there
Never made it there

Twinkle twinkle little star
oh how I wonder what you are
I need something to believe in
just something

Cuz I know how to doubt
it comes easily
and I know all about me and misery
sometimes we get along too well now
And I know all about the cards we play
and the hand that's dealt along the way
could be unfair
just like the one that pushed my childhood
down the stairs

Jack be nimble Jack be quick
well Jack may be a little sick
you see he got burned
he didn't listen
to the one about Mr Dumpty
on the wall
the one who had the great big fall
and they couldn't put him together
I knew they'd never

Cuz I know how to doubt
it comes easily
and I know all about me and misery
sometimes we get along too well now
And I know all about the cards we play
and the hand that's dealt along the way
could be unfair
just like the one that pushed my childhood
down the stairs

down the stairs
down the stairs

Down the stairs where no one dares to go where the lights hang low and the screams stay high
Down the stairs where no one cares about the souls that get shoved down there to die
Down the stairs just like a little lamb I knew he'd never see her
again

Cuz I know how to doubt
it comes easily
and I know all about me and misery
sometimes we get along too well now
And I know all about the cards we play
and the hand that's dealt along the way
could be unfair
just like the one that pushed my childhood
down the stairs

Twisted Ballerina

Little girl
Little twisted ballerina
Little steps
Little twisted ballerina pirouettes
across the floor
to the window where her
daddy watches from the corner of his eye
and her uncle watches her thighs

Little girl
Little twisted ballerina
Dance

Well her mom's at work down at the hospital today
and her daddy decides to cash his paycheck today
and her uncle says "Sure, I'll watch your ballerina dance."
Well she's heard those words before
She's seen that look before
She's smelled his breath before
She's felt his weight on her before
This ballerina
And when her daddy leaves
and when they're alone he's says
"I just bought a ticket to your show."

Little girl
Little twisted ballerina
Dance

Dance dance dance dance
Got to dance got to dance got to dance got to dance got to dance got to dance
Dance
And she dances out the bedroom
And she dances down the hall
And she dances down the steps
And out the front door
And she goes up to the clouds
that's where she find her stage
And she does the dance that’s twice her age

How did he get here?
Who let him in up here?
Who let him in down there?
I was dancing here
I was dancing here
